Japanese Encephalitis - Dengue IgM Combo ELISA
Not available for sale or distribution in Europe or the United States of America.

In response to the need for a Japanese encephalitis diagnostic, Panbio has developed a Japanese Encephalitis - Dengue IgM Combo ELISA (JE-Dengue IgMCombo ELISA). This ELISA will provide qualitative presumptive detection of IgM antibodies to Japanese encephalitis and dengue virus in serum. The test is designed as a combination diagnostic to provide an accurate diagnosis, as cross-reactivity across the flavivirus group is common. Read more

Rickettsial disease across the continents

Once thought to be part of the same family, Rickettsia, Ehrlichia and Coxiella are now considered to be distinct, unrelated bacteria. They are however all small obligate intracellular parasites which were once thought to be viruses due to their small size and the fact that they exist only in living cells. With the exception of Coxiella, all are transmitted by arthropod vectors (e.g. ticks, mites, lice or fleas) (1). Read more

Immune Response to West Nile Virus: avidity testing

Background
West Nile virus (WNV) is a public health problem of significant importance. The recent introduction of WNV into the United States and the public health issues associated with this introduction has initiated a large effort into developing effective diagnostics for the disease. This was further compounded through the discovery that the virus could be transmitted through blood transfusions and has resulted in near-universal screening of U.S. blood donations for WNV.

Diagnostics
Panbio has played a significant role in the development of diagnostics for this disease, being the first commercial company to market a product in the United States. The company has an ongoing commitment to meet the needs of the WNV serology testing market.

One of the difficulties in diagnosing a current WNV infection is the persistence of the IgM response, which can last more than six months following infection. Read more

Dengue and Leptospirosis
The complicated diagnosis

Leptospirosis is considered the most common zoonosis in the world1. Presentation of the disease may be varied, however typical symptoms include headache, chills and severe myalgia. On rare occasions a skin rash may be seen.

"Substantial misdiagnosis of both dengue and leptospirosis can occur and greater public awareness and clinical suspicion of the similar presentations of these two diseases are necessary." Levett et al, 2000 (1) .
